Eight straight answers.
The questions people actually ask before they trust a site like this, answered without marketing.
Is this written by a professional?
No. It is written by one man who was the drinker in the house, not the partner of one. James drank daily from eighteen to forty-five, went into residential treatment in Cheshire in June 2020, and has not drunk since. He is not a counsellor, a domestic-abuse adviser, a social worker, a solicitor or a doctor. The vantage point, and its limits, are set out in full.
Will it tell me whether to leave?
No, in either direction. You are the one who carries the consequences, which is exactly why nobody else should be deciding. What the site will do is tell you plainly when what you have described has stopped being a drinking problem.
Will it tell me whether he is an alcoholic?
No. Nobody can do that from a description, and the word does less work than people expect. What matters is what is actually happening on a Tuesday, and what it is costing.
Who pays for this site?
Nobody but the readers. No clinic, no broker, no treatment provider, no fellowship and no medication company has ever paid for anything on this network, and no referral fee has ever been taken. If that changes it will be written on the editorial standards page before it happens.
What does it cost?
The pages are free and stay free. A daily allowance of conversation with the guide is complimentary and needs no account. Membership is bought once at the network console and carries across every guide in the network, and the price is shown on the join page rather than here — contented.guide. No price is quoted on this site, and the guide will not quote you one.
Is what I type private?
It is not read by a person and it is not monitored. It is also not privileged or confidential in any legal sense, so do not name your employer, his clinic, his doctor, or other people, and do not paste documents. If this has become a legal matter, a solicitor is the right place for the detail.
Will it tell him I was here?
No. There is nothing on this site that contacts anybody. If you share a device or an account with him, clear your browser history when you are done, and use a private window next time — that is a sensible habit in this position regardless of what you use it for.
Why is there no telephone number anywhere?
Because numbers differ by country and change, and a wrong number is worse than none. The routes are named on the safety page and the number is the one where you are.
